SMARTER THAN YOU THINK: Google Cars Drive Themselves, in Traffic

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Anyone driving the twists of Highway 1 between San Francisco and Los Angeles recently may have glimpsed aToyota Prius with a curious funnel-like cylinder on the roof. Harder to notice was that the person at the wheel was not actually driving.

Smarter Than You Think

Articles in this series are examining the recent advances in artificial intelligence and robotics and their potential impact on society.

The car is a project of Google, which has been working in secret but in plain view on vehicles that can drive themselves, using artificial-intelligence software that can sense anything near the car and mimic the decisions made by a human driver.
With someone behind the wheel to take control if something goes awry and a technician in the passenger seat to monitor the navigation system, seven test cars have driven 1,000 miles without human intervention and more than 140,000 miles with only occasional human control. One even drove itself down Lombard Street in San Francisco, one of the steepest and curviest streets in the nation. The only accident, engineers said, was when one Google car was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light.
Autonomous cars are years from mass production, but technologists who have long dreamed of them believe that they can transform society as profoundly as the Internet has.
Robot drivers react faster than humans, have 360-degree perception and do not get distracted, sleepy or intoxicated, the engineers argue. They speak in terms of lives saved and injuries avoided — more than 37,000 people died in car accidents in the United States in 2008. The engineers say the technology could double the capacity of roads by allowing cars to drive more safely while closer together. Because the robot cars would eventually be less likely to crash, they could be built lighter, reducing fuel consumption. But of course, to be truly safer, the cars must be far more reliable than, say, today’s personal computers, which crash on occasion and are frequently infected.
The Google research program using artificial intelligence to revolutionize the automobile is proof that the company’s ambitions reach beyond the search engine business. The program is also a departure from the mainstream of innovation in Silicon Valley, which has veered toward social networks and Hollywood-style digital media.
During a half-hour drive beginning on Google’s campus 35 miles south of San Francisco last Wednesday, a Prius equipped with a variety of sensors and following a route programmed into the GPS navigation system nimbly accelerated in the entrance lane and merged into fast-moving traffic on Highway 101, the freeway through Silicon Valley.
It drove at the speed limit, which it knew because the limit for every road is included in its database, and left the freeway several exits later. The device atop the car produced a detailed map of the environment.
The car then drove in city traffic through Mountain View, stopping for lights and stop signs, as well as making announcements like “approaching a crosswalk” (to warn the human at the wheel) or “turn ahead” in a pleasant female voice. This same pleasant voice would, engineers said, alert the driver if a master control system detected anything amiss with the various sensors.
The car can be programmed for different driving personalities — from cautious, in which it is more likely to yield to another car, to aggressive, where it is more likely to go first.
Christopher Urmson, a Carnegie Mellon University robotics scientist, was behind the wheel but not using it. To gain control of the car he has to do one of three things: hit a red button near his right hand, touch the brake or turn the steering wheel. He did so twice, once when a bicyclist ran a red light and again when a car in front stopped and began to back into a parking space. But the car seemed likely to have prevented an accident itself.
When he returned to automated “cruise” mode, the car gave a little “whir” meant to evoke going into warp drive on “Star Trek,” and Dr. Urmson was able to rest his hands by his sides or gesticulate when talking to a passenger in the back seat. He said the cars did attract attention, but people seem to think they are just the next generation of the Street View cars that Google uses to take photographs and collect data for its maps.
The project is the brainchild of Sebastian Thrun, the 43-year-old director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a Google engineer and the co-inventor of the Street View mapping service.
In 2005, he led a team of Stanford students and faculty members in designing the Stanley robot car, winning the second Grand Challenge of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a $2 million Pentagon prize for driving autonomously over 132 miles in the desert.
Besides the team of 15 engineers working on the current project, Google hired more than a dozen people, each with a spotless driving record, to sit in the driver’s seat, paying $15 an hour or more. Google is using six Priuses and an Audi TT in the project.
The Google researchers said the company did not yet have a clear plan to create a business from the experiments. Dr. Thrun is known as a passionate promoter of the potential to use robotic vehicles to make highways safer and lower the nation’s energy costs. It is a commitment shared by Larry Page, Google’s co-founder, according to several people familiar with the project.
The self-driving car initiative is an example of Google’s willingness to gamble on technology that may not pay off for years, Dr. Thrun said. Even the most optimistic predictions put the deployment of the technology more than eight years away.
One way Google might be able to profit is to provide information and navigation services for makers of autonomous vehicles. Or, it might sell or give away the navigation technology itself, much as it offers its Android smart phone system to cellphone companies.
But the advent of autonomous vehicles poses thorny legal issues, the Google researchers acknowledged. Under current law, a human must be in control of a car at all times, but what does that mean if the human is not really paying attention as the car crosses through, say, a school zone, figuring that the robot is driving more safely than he would?
And in the event of an accident, who would be liable — the person behind the wheel or the maker of the software?
“The technology is ahead of the law in many areas,” said Bernard Lu, senior staff counsel for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. “If you look at the vehicle code, there are dozens of laws pertaining to the driver of a vehicle, and they all presume to have a human being operating the vehicle.”
The Google researchers said they had carefully examined California’s motor vehicle regulations and determined that because a human driver can override any error, the experimental cars are legal. Mr. Lu agreed.
Scientists and engineers have been designing autonomous vehicles since the mid-1960s, but crucial innovation happened in 2004 when the Pentagon’s research arm began its Grand Challenge.
The first contest ended in failure, but in 2005, Dr. Thrun’s Stanford team built the car that won a race with a rival vehicle built by a team from Carnegie Mellon University. Less than two years later, another event proved that autonomous vehicles could drive safely in urban settings.
Advances have been so encouraging that Dr. Thrun sounds like an evangelist when he speaks of robot cars. There is their potential to reduce fuel consumption by eliminating heavy-footed stop-and-go drivers and, given the reduced possibility of accidents, to ultimately build more lightweight vehicles.
There is even the farther-off prospect of cars that do not need anyone behind the wheel. That would allow the cars to be summoned electronically, so that people could share them. Fewer cars would then be needed, reducing the need for parking spaces, which consume valuable land.
And, of course, the cars could save humans from themselves. “Can we text twice as much while driving, without the guilt?” Dr. Thrun said in a recent talk. “Yes, we can, if only cars will drive themselves.”

The Shotcaller: Diplo Talks Hating On Hip-Hop & Hating On The Haters

He’s rapping about cooking and eating pussy and being a princess and there’s mad hood kids from Long Beach dancing to his shit. I love seeing shit fucked up.
Hip-hop in general is talking so much about what they have that people can’t connect with it anymore. People don’t want to hear about fucking selling crack and wearing golden shoes or whatever. If you do it and you do it good, like Clipse or Gucci—I love them, their lyrics are amazing. But there isn’t room for a hundred of those.
Words By Ben Detrick; Photography by Jeaneen Lund (click here for a full gallery of Diplo’s Complex photoshoot.)

Despite the happy nature of his profession—spinning records at parties, making beats, and traveling the globe in search of exciting music—Wesley “Diplo” Pentz can’t help stirring up minor shitstorms. Lately, the 35-year-old Florida native has had a controversial video banned from YouTube for a nipple-slip, was branded a “cultural rapist” by veteran Philadelphia DJ King Britt, and publicly questioned M.I.A.’s talent—while producing records on her latest album. Even if the furor isn’t entirely planned, Diplo is comfortable with chaos: He’s working on another project with his dancehall crew Major Lazer; linking in the studio with artists like Kid Cudi, Vampire Weekend, and Santigold; and managing the label Mad Decent. The very busy dude still found the time to chop it up with Complex for the “Shotcaller” feature in our October/November issue, where he spoke about his new music, recording in Jamaica, and the wonders of Lil B…

Complex: After doing so many remixes for other artists, what are you planning for your solo album?
Diplo: I did a record five or six years ago called Florida that was sort of a trip-hop record. I’ve done a lot of club records, but I think I’m bringing it back to that vibe, more down-tempo and more about the vibe. I’m really into stuff like Beach House. I might sing on some records.

Complex: You’re known as a discerning music guy, but you don’t have any qualms about working with the Black Eyed Peas or Britney Spears.
Diplo: If I don’t want to do it, I won’t do it. But the BlackEyed Peas are different. Even the most egotistical dude, when “Boom Boom Pow” comes on, you can’t really hate on that record. Someone like Tiësto, I never thought I’d collaborate with him. I didn’t even know what music he made, but when I met him, he was super-cool. Some people are superstars and their vibe is ice-cold. I don’t work with robots; I don’t work with A&R factories that pop out records.

Complex: Do those still exist? In hip-hop, the era of the super-producer is dying.
Diplo: Those guys got so corny.

Complex: You’re based in Los Angeles but have worked in Jamaica and New Orleans. Does your location influence your music?

Diplo: L.A. is just a base for Mad Decent. I feel at home in Philly or New Orleans or anywhere on the road. That’s where my inspiration comes from, just traveling and meeting people, and gathering information about music. New Orleans—that’s the kind of city that, no matter what I do or what I plan, it gets fucked up. It’s like True Blood every time I go to Louisiana. It’s spooky and it’s funny and it’s real life happening. My goal is to move there in like five years.

Complex: How important is it to you that Major Lazer be embraced in Jamaica?
Diplo: We’re not trying to be reggae dudes. People enjoy the fact that it’s about the party and the fun. When we first worked at Tuff Gong, they were like, “What are these fucking white boys doing here?” We couldn’t get anyone behind our movement for a really long time. But this last record, it’s working for us. I was at an ATM in New Kingston about six months ago and some young black kid came up to me like, “Diplo, Diplo!” I thought I was gonna get robbed, but he was like, “Nah, man, I saw you in the video and I want to get your email.” He sent me beats the next day—it was crazy Flying Lotus hip-hop beats. I’m trying to put him on the next record.

Complex: Due to your outsider status in dancehall, Baltimore club, and Brazilian Baile funk, you’ve been accused of being exploitative.
Diplo: Journalists like to criticize me, but no journalists are in Brazil making music with kids. They’re sitting in an office in fucking Boston drinking Mountain Dew Code Red. It’s intellectuals and people at colleges that are writing diatribes about race and ethics. I’m not an archivist. I want to see Ninjasonik or Death Set in Philly with 100 black kids going fucking insane. Or Lil B here in L.A. He’s rapping about cooking and eating pussy and being a princess and there’s mad hood kids from Long Beach dancing to his shit. I love seeing shit fucked up. I feel like I’m doing things I’m not supposed to be doing. I can be extreme and controversial, and if you’re not doing that, what are you doing? You’re pretty boring.

Unreal?

Die Antwoord: Evil Boy [Cherrytree]

fresh as fuck

You know what? I honestly do not remember what I did last night. It was pretty lame, and something in bed. I think I went to sleep pretty early after a depressing loss again by the Twins and will be awaiting the game in New York City on Saturday. Go Twins. Fuck my memory.

The Find: Ralph Lauren Grey Sweatpants

SteveMcqueen_Weightlifting1

Heather grey sweatpants are almost as classic as blue jeans to me. I've been obsessed with finding the perfect pair for over a decade. Most of the ones I've bought the last few years have been pretty close. But it took the god Ralph Lauren to get it just right this Fall season.

I'm not saying these are perfect because there are a few missing details that I absolutely love like a crotch gusset, reinforced knees, and more of a salt & pepper marled loopwheel fabric. But in the last ten years these are absolutely as good as it gets as far as tailored sweatpants. Thank you, Mr. Lauren. You made my afternoon... Being a self-proclaimed sweatpant elitist (they really exist) like myself, let me wax poetic for you guys...

RalphLauren_Sweatpants1

"Unfortunately these gems are not available online yet. So I took a few photos of them on my floor (myself, not an assistant... Really.) The concept of taking photos of my clothing is really lame to me. But I can't figure out another way to show you how amazing they are besides maybe filming a Test Shot..."

RalphLauren_Sweatpants2

"Zipper fly with two button hidden closure and drawstring. You had me at hello. You see the problem with most sweatpants is the cock outline. Yeah, I said it. Even when you wear boxer briefs the infamous cock outline is still there. Just check my man, McQueen above. Straight cock outline. With a proper zipper fly you're good money."

RalphLauren_Sweatpants3

"Two back pockets with flap and button closure. Functional belt loops... Fuck outta here!"

RalphLauren_Sweatpants4

"Dart detail for a proper fit. You can sag in these if you like but I prefer a proper tailored style in my sweaties."

RalphLauren_Sweatpants5

"I'm not down with that flared boot cut look in my denim or sweats. No disrespect but that's for the Biergarten types. We go right up the elevator to the eighteenth floor instead. Keep it fitted and hemmed."

RalphLauren_Sweatpants6

"The last touch is the name. Bleecker. Say word? Coincidence?... Maybe."

SteveMcQueen_Boxing

"I know the Steve McQueen reference is sooooo tired and you deserve better from me at this point. But that motherfucker is handsome as fuck and his sweatpants actually fit him. And.. well... my mom made me watch all of his films like a thousand times when I was a kid. So that's been my reference point. Sorry guys..."

Let me first begin with FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

The Twin's game began at five and not seven thirty like I thought. I find out it began via Twitter, when I looked down on it. I have three computers at my counter for work. A internet with point-of-sale interface Mac mini computer, a OG Macbook Pro fifteen inch matte screen for music and movies and data and media, and a ten inch Samsung N120 black netbook that is my daily home mobile computer and media center. I have too many computers at my fingertips.

What did I do yesterday night?
I watched the Twin's baseball game until close. When I left at closing time, the score was tied three to zero. I get home, a half hour away, and the yankees are up four to three, WHAT THE FUCK!? I get home and catch the rest and surf the internet some more. I usually am on twitter, facebook, blogs, or hypebeast forum. I am also on eBay quite a bit looking up my usual searches. I watched the game disgustingly until the end. The game finished pretty late. I go to sleep.

I wake up and head over to work. It is Thursday. I sort of want to do something, but not having my bike, Vince out of town, Nate working, most others working or school, people I texted do not reply back, seems my choices are shit.  Oh well, I will figure out something for Friday or Saturday, one of the weekend days at least. Most of the weekend will probably include watching the Twins and cheering them on via at work or home if applicable, whether they are losing or not. Apparently the umpires are shitting on  Minnesota dreams quit a bit as well, so I have heard.

I watched Resident Evil, the new one, at work today. It had some good action sequences, other than that, same story, or lack thereof, different names. I like stupid movies. I am not paying for them though, full price anyways. That is just bitch-made or simping shit, yeah you can go to a movie theater on a weekday. Who cares if you do not watch the movie Friday or Saturday? The movie sets up for a sequel of course. I also watched another episode of The Wire. I sold a couple things. Tomorrow awaits, Friday.

Au Revoir.

Subculture cannot be spoonfed. I help people. I am more than willing to help once or twice if you ask or have exhausted options yourself first(the internet is vary vast, so always try google). I can not help you though, especially when rudeness such as the above has been demonstrated. People that are willing to trust me first, are people that I trust most, aside from blindly with my blood family. I can easily count on one hand who I can trust, can you?

"First we try. Then we trust."

So I took a shot in the dark yesterday. I posted a Craigslist ad for a Wiz Khalifa ticket for one hundred twenty online. Some girl responded. I was to meet up with her at the door from seven thirty to eight or so, but Cathy got here late to cover for me, and then when I got there or was on the way there, she bought a ticket already. I tried selling my ticket to people at the door, but most of them were broke asses. I decided to go to the show instead. I tried to see if I could get Jake to get me inside and cut the line, because I was lazy and did not want to wait. I stood around outside hitting up various people to see if they wanted a ticket while trying to get a hold of Jake. Apparently Jake was not there until the Yelawolf performance which I found out from him when I got a hold of him inside. I met Zach and Mikey along with Lauren and their pregnant friend outside. I went inside with them. First thing I noticed inside was the packed place and the general age of the majority crowd. The average age of a concert goer that night was about fourteen. Believe me, these kids had their fake ID game on point. The place was up in smoke as expected as well. Zach was smoking at the bar and the security took that joint away. That was a funny point of the night. Another thing, there were two girls pulled onto the stage, both looking fourteen or fifteen, one girl had a supper barely there short sparkly dress. If you go on stage bitch, expect to dance. If you are not going to dance, get the fuck off. If you have a boyfriend, why the fuck are you on the stage to begin?

Surprise of the night? Yelawolf lived well up to the buzz as I have not heard much for him and him being a newcomer. He acted like someone who has been performing for years before. He brought a freshness to a scene of blandness with a unique persona and style. He is like what happened if Eminem get spliced with Twista. His marketing team could be doing a better job, but they sufficiently did their job as he is now touring with Wiz Khalifa, which gets his name out there very well.

Wiz Khalifa performed as usual. He was not a diva like the first time like last year when I saw him. His hype men were there as usual. He performed many songs off his Kush and OJ mix-tape. That is my gripe with the performance. Kush and OJ was a very instrumental and jazz-like driven composition. Many of the instrumentals for the tracks last night sounded like a sped up version of the originals with added sounds.  Maybe it was where I was at as well, but many instrumentals sounded like the Blowing Money Fast by Rick Ross beat. Many different versions of Rick Ross were played throughout the night as well. The audience was very sheep-like in that they seemed to be all clones of each other without any life or style or knowledge. They were all robotic. This is the part where you say I am a hater. I call it very critical or opinionated personally. His repertoire for the performance did not out do the second performance at Varsity theater. The Varsity theater is by far his better show. I am not a fan of super packed crowds unless I was in the front early or completely drunk. I had no drinks but did have a five hour energy shot.

The show ended around half past midnight. I ran into Jennifer, who was this friend of a friend, I do not know which one, but she was someone I was following via Twitter and such from the area. It was dark and I did not know who it was or could see, she noticed me apparently somehow. Too many times a day, people see me, and I go "Who is this? How do I know them?". This was the second time today, earlier at work it happened as well, but then I remembered it was the girl that works at Kowloon in Dinkytown.

Cathy texted me around the same time the show ended. She did not drop the key off at my place, so she met me downtown at First Avenue to give me the work key. She gave me a ride to Caffrey's. I thanked her for bringing me over there. She flipped the switches wrong on the control box for the shop closing at the end of the night. She told me she got it right, because she left some lights on in the the shop. I was frustrated in this because lights on means energy used. Energy used when it doesn't need to be is money wasted, especially when no one is in there overnight. I ordered a Blue Cow with my free sandwich card and a potato salad. I use my card for the one something, but get a pop as well so that the credit card is more since they get charged per transaction. I get Dr. Pepper and wait for my sandwich. I get the sandwich and potato salad, but walk like two blocks home before I realize, I DO NOT HAVE MY KEYS (this happens a lot) and walk to Caffrey's. I look on the table and there it is. I leave and jog home instead, because I wanted to eat my sandwich pretty badly. I get home and eat while watching the new Nightmare On Elm Street movie. I finish and do not know what happened in the movie at all. Sleep starts here then.

Zoinks.

OG A Bathing Ape Collaboration with w)taps and STASH

Coming soon to me in the states. FRONT/BACK. Detailed pictures one it arrives. Hanes Beefy-T steez.

Last night I went to watch 'The Social Network' which is a dramatization of story of Facebook's creation. It was directed by David Fincher along with some no name actors with composser Trent Reznor on the mood music. The movie starts out very awkwardly with Mark and Erica in a college bar on a date. I will leave it at that simply. The movie follows the sorting of ownership of the previously next-level facebook.

David Fincher cinematographical shots were varied and the wardrobe fit very well. The tone of mostly seriousness with some comedy, but not saying, "Hey laught at this part!" type comedy. The five dollar movie was unfortunately decently packed, with about twenty people in the theater along with myself. Yes, to me that was packed. What was worst is that one fat dude with one average dude both sat like 5 seats to the left of me. I like my seat too much. I wish the two dudes could of "Fucked Off" and found another row. I guess that is the price you pay when you get the row that has metal rails in front for a footrest. Another thing, the seats do not recline. FUCK.

The movie ends around a little after midnight. I missd the twelve eleven bus that goes across the street from Barfly. I end up having another night of walking to Uptown from Downtown. I text while I walked. I also did so much "Vs. Social Standard" stickering. If you walk along Hennepin street through to MCTC to Loring Park to The Walker Art Center to Hennepin to Lake to home, you should be able to see a sticker somewhere, hopefully everywhere. I will continue to post up as well more. I bet the cop rejects that work downtown will end up removiing a lot of them possibly. I hit up the SuperAmerica at twenty sixth and Hennepin for some goodies to go. I end up getting home about near two in the morning. The bus left downtown at like one eleven. If I took that bus, I would have been home at about one thirty or forty five after one. Oh well, you live and you learn and you experience. I would not exchange that for anything, except abnormal amounts of cash or gold probably.

Up and out!
p.s. God grwing an asian beard is grimey and slow. I feel like a dirty immigrant or something from not shaving. POST 15! Halfway through the month of nothingness. . . . .

Words

Words from a Twenty Seven year old Tokyo Japan transplant:
I'm just doing something I've always wanted to do. Found myself aging faster than I was accomplishing my goals and aspirations so I sold everything, quit my job, dumped my girl and moved to Tokyo to learn Japanese bartending and generally just live life the way I want to live it. Never been happier.

Thanks for the kind words. Respect.

This echoes some of my sentiments. I just do not have the gamble to take on something like this right now. I  like to play the safe choice many a times in my decision making positions.

Here’s a preview of the latest Air Footscape Woven from Nike’s Sportswear line. The shoe seamlessly blends lightweight and durable materials, including a tightly woven nylon upper and a neoprene neck. Forming part of this year’s Holiday collection, the Woven model is not often seen in Winter colors, and it’s especially nice to see materials that aren’t so easily ruined. Decorated in a two-tone navy/grey colorway, this edition should be wearable all year round.

Streetwear Thoughts

Growing up means change. It can mean change for the better and for the worst.
This is all relative. Comfort is key.

Streetwear growth DOES NOT MEAN full corporate world apparel. Suit and Ties fully replacing your closet of just tees is not growth, but filling another lifestyle.

Streetwear is partially about how things are worn, not what is worn as well in a small part.

Ugh, semi-hate that word above as well, but it is one of the better fitting words to fill the blank for the moment.

Breaking Bread Sessions with Brian Mendoza of Wings + Horns

Breaking Bread Sessions with Brian Mendoza of Wings + Horns
Breaking Bread Sessions is a new podcast. In their first episode they talked to Brian Mendoza of Wings + Horns. They talk about how the Dayton Boot came to be and how the CYC Design owner gave the name to Tiger Fleece. You can listen to it now here.

So yesterday was semi-payday. I say semi because the money all went to bills and the usual 'life payments'. I watched soccer games instead of working and American football. The Vikings were not playing, so fuck the NFL then. In other sports, the Twins lost as well one to two. The Twins are like one for eight games recently going into the playoffs against the Yankees (FUCKTHEYANKEES). Wednesday and Thursday are games in at Target Field, which should be good since this is the inaugural season.

Listening to this Breaking Bread session with Brian Mendoza and these Canadian asian designers, they are pretty much how I expect them to be. Geeky and dorky. Cool conversation and audio recording. It is about a half hour long. The guys talk about watches to spending to designing and portfolio and such. The change goes towards wings&horns re-branding to wings+horns to even w+h in different font and style

I get ready to leave work. I end up going to take a piss like usual when I need to before leaving. I hear voices, so I hurry my pissing and go to check. Sometimes my ears play tricks on my and I end up hearing things, but today it was not. There are two people shopping around while I am dressed in Northface and backpack ready to bounce. I realize then that I will not be going on the bus I expected to catch. I chill and wait, then the girl grabs a top and then I realize that she will be copping something. I fire up the computer register and such. Sweet, a sale and a medium sized one, before leaving last minute. I was glad these people did not make me wait for no reason. I end up catching the bus to Lake and Hennepin and take the twenty one bus along Lake to by K-Mart. Along the walk to the bus stop I posted at least a good five Vs. Social Standard stickers upon poles or signs here and there. Recently I have been carrying a stack of the stickers. Uptown, Downtown, and Minneapolis in general will see my sticker wrath. I put them along poles everywhere I walk, especially on the way home or to places for food, or at the bus stop. My most notable recent trip was after the twenty one, I asked these kids that are like 'jerking' at the stop where the eighteen stop going north on Nicollet is. The kids point me in the direction to a shelter that was like half a block away. Nicollet and Lake intersection is a weird section of bus stops and bus shelters with one-ways and two-ways. I end up getting on the eighteen and getting off like five minutes later, especially when the bus driver was taking forever along with the rider to board. From now on, I realized I could walk from getting off of the twenty one to Quang's much easier and faster as it was not to long of a distance. I hit up Mel to see what she grabs from there usually aside from their pho (broth too fatty) or the Bun Bo Hue(my usual). She said one of the pork chops with broken rice platters. I get in there, and the place is SWAMPED. I get there about like seven or so. There was a wait list to be seated. FUCK THAT. I was taking a to go. It is times like these that being solo is nice; imagine if I was having dinner with someone, my impatience would have ran and had a mindsplosion waiting. I ordered the 'Quang's original grilled pork chops over broken rice' platter with the dessert that is green on both sides and has that cake-like yellow stuff in between. The total was like ten nineteen and it came out pretty quick. I take the eighteen across the street a few blocks. I see the twenty one go by as I get off the eighteen. I decide to just walk it with the platter in my hand. I had Blue Flame in my ear, a dinner platter in my hand, and a stack of stickers. I posted while walking along Lake all the way back to my place. I get home about eight twenty or so.

The dinner platter was decently priced and still warm for how long a distance I walked. The gripe I had was with the huge lettuce sheet they gave, like what the fuck am I supposed to do with this? Was I suppose to eat the platter like a wrap? Nuoc cham came with the lettuce, along with pickled daikon and carrot on the side. I poured the nuoc cham on the rice and chops and demolished the huge lettuce that took over the container. The broken rice was a new thing to me. The pork chops taste like something my mom or grandma has made before. I had some of the dark chili oil in a container left over from a trip to Shueng Cheng that I poured on it as well. Spicy:) I watched most of Jonah Hex while eating this also. I finished it finally after trying a few times in a few days to watch it. The movie was BAD. After the movie, it was nine thirty or so. I head out to go to the Joell Ortiz performance.

I walk along thirty second street to the Bryant park and cut through the baseball field to go to the SuperAmerica. I hit that place up and cop a RedBull so I do not fall asleep, but eventually sort of do, more on that later. I continue my plastering of the street along the way to Cause formerly known as Sauce, changing only one letter due to another place of the same name.  I get there and listen to this rapper from two thousand and three with the oversized Miskeen orange zip and San francisco Giants pinwheel fitted, with his skinny LRG wearing hype-man. He needed work on everything. He had one decent song out of the bunch of songs he performed. Next was this dude who called himself 'Nobuddie' pronounced like nobody. He gave 50Tyson and Eli Porter a run for their money. I give him props for doing what he believed and enjoyed though. He made a big deal that it was his birthday and he was getting older, that age of twenty six. The next group was these three friends that went by the name of 'The Bottom-feeders', who were pretty good. These guys actually had some potential. The thing I didn't like about them was it did not feel natural. Freez of Illuminous3 and St. Paul Slim went next, these two guys had their flow on point along with the energy and presence. Their shit just felt correct. The next two performers were not from Minnesota. The first was a guy name PropAnon or Propaganda Anonymous, who was from Bushwick New York. His rapping was alright. Energy was there even for a shitty looking crowd. A lifeless crowd. He tried to get a punk song called Luxury Condos out into the crowd, but they were not feeling it. It is Minneapolis, they are ready or the punk crowd is not that big out here. Joell was next up. He started with his verse off Sound Off on the Slaughterhouse album. He continued to do others, an acapella song, and then Microphone from Slaughterhouse. He went into some older hip-hop tracks to test if the crowd knew much older joints from various other heavy hitters. He then finished the performance with his verse of "Nissan, Honda, Chevy". He apparently drove ten hours with others to Minneapolis to do the performance. Brother Ali was in the house along with DJ Fundo, Eunice, and Gadget. Joell finished at about quarter after midnight. I bounced soon thereafter.

I headed to SuperAmerica after thinking for a minute outside of Cause what to eat? I grabbed a Jumbo Dog and a Polish Dog. I loaded them up with onions and relish on both, ketchup and mustard on one, and chili with cheese on the other, paid my two dollars something along with receiving my SuperAmerica points, and walked off. The dogs are not too bad for a cheap late night snack. More stickers were plasterd along the walk home from here.

I stripped and snoozed, I was tired and had to be up early to deposit some money at TCF and drop a package off in the mailroom destined for Denmark.

Last night I knew I was going to stay in. I did just that. The internet is out at my place for some reason or other. I can get on the wireless network, but it gives the limited or no connectivity exclamation point for status.

Since I was not able to get on the internet, I tried to watch the movie Jonah Hex that I downloaded. It is some western comic book influenced movie. I watched it, the second time I have tried to, and fell asleep to it again. I woke up to it during the middle of my sleep. I notice this because I have no clue as to what is going on in the movie.

I woke up to pause it and turn the backlight off on the computer, and head to sleep. I went to sleep at like eleven about.

Today has been a plus and minus so far. The plus is that Barcelona FC won along with Real Madrid for La Liga, but Manchester United tied to only get one point. They are now third in the point standings, but are still undefeated.

I need my camera back, along with a unibody Macbook Pro. Tonight I am going to see Joell Ortiz from Brooklyn New York at Cause, formerly known as Sauce, and a fourth member of Slaughterhouse hip-hop group.

Smell ya later.

Last night I got home and it was Get Cryphy dance night at First Avenue's Record Room. I ate the Philly pastrami sandwich and fries from The Great Steak & Potato Company to get some greasy kind of lining for my stomach.I also bought a Red Bull from them as I would not be able to go to the gas station before.

I get home and sort of surfed the internet for a good forty five minutes instead of napping before going to downtown. I showered and headed out. It was a chilly night. I had a polo, khakis, coach jacket, and some Jordan ones. I brought my ear plugs as well.

I walk to the bus stop and see the six going by me (FUCK!), so I check my phone and it is only forty seven after, I think there is a six U still to come. I end up walking to the Uptown Transit Center. I get  there and wait for the next bus, but not before two drunkard homeless bums get on the bus before I do. I get to downtown after like fifteen or twenty minutes, which it took so long because of Twin's traffic and a few theater shows along Hennepin Avenue. I hit up the ATM at Block E to grab twenty and go to The Depot to grab dollar cover passes from the waitress that Eli left them with before leaving for the night. I grabbed those and headed to Cryphy. I get there at about eleven thirty or so. I see many familiar faces outside and then inside there as well. It got pretty packed quickly as usual. I had my drink of a vodka red bull. I went to get a second drink and I do not know what heard me say, but it was some kind of cranberry drink that he ended up giving me. I had both these and danced the night away for the most part. I gotta waste away the calories that are empty and stockpiled during the week. Fuck, I get home and see that some cranberry or something got on my coat jacket mesh lining and is red. I have to wash that along with the pants and polo since there is probably other booze or water that spilled on it.

At the end of the night, I gave some Chevrolet Avalanche a pisser in front of his bumper on the way to the bus stop. I got on the bus and got off by Chino Latino. I start walking to Caffrey's or SuperAmerica, expecting to have a late night meal courtesy of one of those places since they open late to either half past two in the morning or even three. I walk until I see Sawatdee Express by Stella's open. It is two thirty when I get there. I decided to get some spicy chicken pad thai instead of the hot dogs or deli sub that I planned to get. Once I get the pad thai, I run from Sawatdee to my place which is about like four to five blocks away. I ran because I wanted to eat it while it was fresh and hot instead of when it is cold, which would not have tasted so great. Iate while in bed and went straight to sleep after.

Then comes today. I wake up tired. I still feel crap like symptoms still. I watched Manchester United play a crappy game and tie zero to zero. Fucking A, United is still behind Chelsea.

Tonight, probably chill and not do shit. I also sold two pairs of shoes that I bought. I have made a profit off buying those two already; I just need to flip this third one and get maximum profit. Today, or yesterday became the first day or start of not shaving all winter. It will be weird for the first few weeks or so:(

Do not confuse slim with skinny; do not confuse form fitting with painted on clothing. If you move a part of your body in a natural movement, and your skin shows or undergarments, shits too tight. Minnesota can not figure this shit out. The is for the males specifically, but can apply to females as well. If shit on you is not flattering at all, do not wear it.

Last night was another lame night. I watched another movie.  The movie was "30 Days Of Night". The plot of the movie is that of in Alaska, there is a month that there is no sunlight. The sun does not come out for a full thirty days. There are vampires that assault one of the cities in that time. There are people that avoid the slaughter and the movie follows them in their time to outlast the vampires. Josh Hartnett and Melissa George are in the starring roles of this movie. It was alright. You got to watch this if you you want more or read the synopsis on wikipedia or even imdb.com.

Today I watched the sequel to it "30 Days Of Night: Dark Days". This was good too even though the stars of the first one did not come in this sequel. The plot of this one was that Melissa George's character goes around trying to tell the story of the city in Alaska around the country that the government and others have hidden. She gets met up with some vampire hunters, and they all plan to kill the vampire 'queen' Lilith....

Wow. I have been playing the 2 J.Rocc Supreme mixes all day, and have gotten so many questions about "Who is this by?" today. The mixes are just samples off vinyl originals. Me and Nate know this because we can hear they are samples from other songs, and that is what both mixes sound like. In order to get the tracks, he had to of had the original vinyls probably. J.Rocc is Stones Throw Records family, so it makes sense that most of those samples are from that.

Angelina is such a bitch. Finally that girl is gone! The New Jersey shore was a pretty entertaining episode. Tonight is a Get Cryphy night. Peaces. Lazy.

edit: I do not quite know how to explain it, but some specific types of people will never understand sub-culture or have the authenticity of it. . .
